I caught a whiff of the holidays this week. Those darn decorations are decking the halls at local stores, while I’ve just started to think about pumpkins.

Want some early help with a unique gift? One that will work for every member of your family? One that will be treasured for years to come?

How about having your old family photos and stories incorporated into a permanent book, with copies for all? How about gathering all of your son’s or daughters’s soccer career photos – from age eight to 18 – into a sports book they will treasure? Maybe your parents have a landmark anniversary ahead – how about a retrospective of their marriage and family?

Would you like to go from this…

…to this?

I can do it for you, from organizing and scanning, to writing narrative, to designing, to publishing multiple copies. Hand it off to me and it will be done by Christmas.

Cheers,

baby book shutterflyTerribly. Trite. Title.

However, the post IS about Grace and she IS amazing. Look at those big inquisitive eyes. This little one is my favorite baby on the planet (except for her twin sister Hannah).

Grace’s parents are documenting her life by taking daily photos – many photos – with their cell phones. Some are goofy and some are charming and some are simply gorgeous. The one with spit up on Grandpa’s shirt elicits laughter and will serve as a warm memory of baby reality.

But Mommy and Daddy are also having professional portraits taken on a monthly basis so that they will have elegant images of their little ladies as well. When these more formal shots are interspersed with the true-to-life dailies, the book about Grace’s (and Hannah’s) first year will tell a tale of baby mirth, baby messes, and baby magic.

Assembling their photo book will be a labor of love, and totally amazing.

Cheers,

pet photo shutterfly

I live in the suburbs. A mutt is considered wildlife, given that black labs and golden retrievers are my neighborhood’s dogs of choice. So when I saw two turkeys swoop down on the sidewalk in front of me this morning, I was both startled and delighted. And I nearly spilled my latte, which would not have turned out well for anyone.

I’d heard the rumors that a flock of wild turkeys had invaded the area. There were even a few blurry photos posted on the local e-list. But this fella was up close and personal, and I managed to grab my phone and snap a pic before he wandered off in the direction of the local sushi bar. A California roll? Teriyaki? Or perhaps edamame would be more to his liking.

Anyway, whether your household is home to barnyard critters or the traditional cats and dogs, be sure to take their pictures. You’ll want to include them in your family photo book.

Cheers,

vintage photo grandparentYou may have taken photos during the holidays. Don’t let them disappear in to the cybersphere. At the very least, place them in safe storage, some place like Google Photos, Flickr, or Dropbox.

And what about your photos from last Christmas? Or your kids’ baby photos, school photos, soccer photos, or graduation photos? I can compile them all into customized, colorful books. You may want a book of “Baby’s First Year” pictures, or a collection of your young athlete’s action shots. Maybe you would like a permanent collection of your son’s or daughter’s elementary school or high school activities.

And how about family history? Do you have photos of parents, grandparents or great-grandparents stored “somewhere?” Bring them out and have them safely scanned. Let me preserve them in a family history book with narrative from your elderly relatives or genealogical information.

Here’s to preserving our old photos during the new year.

Cheers,
